When you use YapYap, we may collect the following types of information:

  • Personal Information: Name, email address, and username.
  • Voice Data: Audio recordings ("Yaps") that you create, upload, or share through the Service.
  • Device Information: Information about your device, including hardware models, operating systems, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
  • Identifiers: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens for push notifications.

2. How We Use It

We use the information we collect for various purposes, including:

  • To operate, maintain, and provide the features and functionality of the Service.
  • To verify your identity via One-Time Password (OTP) emails.
  • To send you push notifications regarding activity on your account.
  • To moderate content utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to maintain a safe community environment.
  • To understand and analyze how you use our Service to improve the user experience.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on trusted third-party service providers to power various features of YapYap. By using our Service, your data may be processed by the following:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): We use Cognito for authentication, DynamoDB for database storage, S3 and CloudFront for hosting and delivering audio assets, and Amazon Transcribe and Comprehend for AI transcription and moderation.
  • Resend: Used to deliver transactional emails, including OTPs and waitlist notifications.
  • RevenueCat: Used to manage in-app subscriptions and payments (YapYap Pro).
  • Firebase: Used specifically for delivering push notifications to your mobile device.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. Voice memos are stored securely until you actively delete them or choose to delete your account entirely. Waitlist email addresses are retained securely until our public launch, after which they will be utilized to inform you that the platform is live.

5. User Rights

You have full control over your data. You possess the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request corrections to any inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your account: You may request the deletion of your account and all associated data directly within the app's settings. Upon deletion, your voice memos, profile data, and associated records will be permanently removed from our active systems.

6. AI Moderation & Transcription

To keep YapYap safe, audio content uploaded to the platform is automatically transcribed and analyzed for hate speech, harassment, and violations of our community guidelines using AWS Transcribe and AWS Comprehend. These transcripts may be temporarily or permanently stored to enforce our safety policies and improve moderation accuracy.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take immediate steps to remove that information from our servers.
